Benchmarking

On the performance page, you can benchmark your portfolio against a number of well-known ETFs.

To be able to really compare your portfolio, we make a benchmark simulation based on your portfolio actions. At the same time, as you make a deposit, we simulate a buy trade of the selected benchmark.

For the benchmark, we use ETFs that reflect the market. All ETFs used are accumulating, so that dividends received are included in the price.

  • AEX → AEX GR Index
  • S&P 500 → iShares Core S&P 500 UCITS ETF (Eur, Acc)
  • MSCI ACWI → iShares MSCI ACWI UCITS ETF (Eur, Acc)

How is the benchmark calculated?

We use your portfolio actions to simulate the benchmark so that we can calculate your portfolio and the benchmark in exactly the same way.

We do this using the following steps:

  1. On the first day of the selected period, we simulate a deposit equal to the initial value of your portfolio in that period.
  2. Based on this deposit, we simulate a trade where we buy as much of the index or ETF as possible.
  3. For each new deposit (between the start and end date of the chosen period) we do the following:
    1. We simulate a deposit that is equivalent to your portfolio deposit.
    2. With this new deposit, we simulate a transaction in which we buy as much of the index or ETF as possible.

Simply put, when you make a deposit, we simulate a buy action in the chosen index or ETF. When you withdraw money, we sell the chosen index or ETF.
